FIVEINCHMONSTERS

Initiated in 2013 in NYC, #subwaymouths is my ongoing photo documentation project. I photograph the images of printed mouths in the advertisements found in the subway, specifically ones that have been altered through various graffiti techniques. The image of the printed mouth, the focus of hundreds of advertisements, registers current personal and political culture.

This project was started when Instagram first became available. It has been cited by professors of art and design colleges as a near-perfect example of the use of the Instagram platform as a vehicle for an ongoing photo project.
